On a very sensitive site on a scenic coastal route, it was clear from the beginning of the design process that this site required a unique solution.

Following close and detailed discussions with the Planning Department, any dwelling proposed for the site would have to have the least impact on the landscape as possible and ‘disappear’ into the surrounding fields.

With that in mind, the decision was made to dig the house into the hill and have the landscape envelope the house with only one elevation exposed to allow for light and ventilation.

The house is dug into the hill with the higher field coming on to the roof of the house.
